How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time!

ree

In other words, you know that to feel well you need to create positive habits, take care of yourself physically and mentally, prepare for stressful times and create and nourish a supportive community, but that can be overwhelming and at some points in our lives, down right impossible!

Last week I got a message from someone I know and love well, telling me about her crazy busy mornings being a mum and having a stressful job and how impossible it would be right now to create a beautiful morning ritual for herself.

I could totally relate to how she was feeling, I can remember points when the luxury of choice was non-existent, it was about surviving rather than thriving. Sometimes it might not be the right time to eat that whole elephant in one sitting (okay, the elephant metaphor is starting to feel weird now!) What I mean to say is that it’s okay to accept that right now it might be too overwhelming to take on certain actions (like expecting your kids to stay in bed past 5am so that you can exercise, mediate or journal.) So take small bites, try what you can and see what works for you. As I always say, little things done consistently make big changes long term..

There are so many small actions that you can make that will draw in calmness, clarity and confidence. These small actions done over time become positive habits and will consistently remind you that you are worthy of everything good.

It’s also worth noting that the time will come when you do have more freedom to put yourself first, but at that point survival energy might have begun to feel quite safe and now opening up and making changes towards thriving physically, spiritually and emotionally, will suddenly seem risky, unimportant or unrealistic. Remind yourself that these feelings are normal too, but that you are braver than you feel, that you are deserving of the best life, and of feeling like the happiest version of yourself.
